The Magician
02:25
|
|||
I know all you wanted was to be part of the show
but now the spell has broken
for you the spell has broken
i didn't mean to make you just the box jumper
it wasn't my intention
you are my companion
and it's not that i need or want power over you
you're here by your own choosing
it's not meant to be an illusion
but looking at me now you see the conjurer gone
and all that's left is charcoal
just a hatbox full of charcoal
a cheap trick magician wandering from girl to girl
looking for a victim
someone to drive his sword into
sitting in the crowd and watching where you should be standing now
someone more insistent
the magicians new assistant

Anna's Calling
02:54
|
|||
i'm at home
anna's calling me on video phone
she's telling me she's on her own an lonely
she calls me all the time
are you there?
laura's writing to me nearby somewhere
says she's lying in her underwear and lonely
i can't see her eyes to know
but i don't recognise her
i'm sure that i must know her
i just wasn't sober when we met
i forget so very easily
she seems to know me
her message looks enough like it should that i trust it
i'm that desperate for love
in every window someone knew
to put my dreams on to

Road
01:40
|
|||
the darkest stretch of the road
no lights to lead you on or guide you home
it's too late to go back but you're alone
it's more of a struggle than you'd hoped
but any road worth walking is sure to be hard
the ground will not be broken down a clear path
expect to go in circles and back on yourself
be sure the company you keep will serve you well
on the darkest stretch of the road
as you begin to lose all hope
well if it hurts that's when you know you're getting close
the one's that matter are the ones that hurt the most
and if it's all you'd hoped for
enjoy it but don't stay
everything changes and this will be the same
because any road worth walking is sure to draw a crowd
it won't be yours for long
whatever you have found
on the darkest stretch of the road
no wonder so many people just stay home
it's too late to go back but if i can go on
i don't know
it's more of a struggle than i'd hoped

Sunday
04:18
|
|||
the devil doesn't chase you on a sunday
and i have god to thank
he protects children, sailors, drunken men
and me
i don't care much for money
but fuck me do i need some now
the devils banging at my door
it's not god's day anymore
so i'm talking through the letterbox
telling him that i'm not home
i don't know when i'll be back
i didn't say where i was gone
eventually the devils goes
but he leaves his card behind
the devil doesn't chase you on a sunday
and i have god to thank
though both were born of men
the week and the weekend
i don't have high hopes for heaven
but i've got no hope in hell
i cannot be absolved
or sell my soul
so i'm talking through the letterbox
telling him that i'm not home
i don't know when i'll be back
i didn't say where i was gone
eventually the devils goes
but he leaves his card behind
and i have nothing to give
any money i've got is not mine
i'm counting pennies to buy beans
get an egg and fry it dry
my benefits have all been spent
on getting high enough to write
the devil doesn't chase you on a sunday
and i have god to thank
he protects children, sailors, drunken men
and me
